Twitter Flags Trump’s tweet as “Glorifying Violence”

Twitter has flagged President Donald J. Trump’s tweets about protests in Minneapolis as “glorifying violence” due to its violation of platform rules.

Trump, has been at war with the company since earlier this week, when it applied fact checks to two of his tweets about mail-in ballots.

Trump earlier via his tweets threatened to quell ensuing protests in Minneapolis on the death of a black man – George Floyd – with military force.

The tweet which started as a message of support for the governor of Minnesota, ended with threats to shoot protestors should the situation escalate.

Mr Trump wrote on Twitter: "I can’t stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right."

He then added: "These THUGS are dishonouring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way.

"Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!"

Twitter did not remove the tweet, saying it had determined it might be in the public interest to have it remain accessible.

It does that only for tweets by elected and government officials. A user looking at Trump’s timeline would have to click to see the original tweet.
