Donald Trump denies that he went into his White House bunker as a result of fear due to the protests following the murder of George Floyd, instead insisting that he went down to carry out an inspection.

The president of the United States entered his security bunker on Friday night and lights outside the White House were turned off, sparking widespread mockery of Trump.

"I went down during the day, and I was there for a tiny little short period of time," Trump said during an interview with Fox News Radio. "It was much more for an inspection. There was no problem during the day."

CNN, however, disputes his claims and says they do not align with the accounts their sources have told them, explaining that he spent about an hour in the bunker and that first lady Melania and son Baron accompanied him.

In response to reports that he was hiding, Trump insisted on posing with a bible outside St. John's Church in Lafayette Square, from where protesters were cleared using tear gas in order for him to leave the White House.
