Torrential rains in Upper West kill four

Some four persons in the Binduri and Builsa North districts of the Upper East Region have died following days of torrential rains.

The deceased, all males, included two children aged 8 and 12.

Per reports from ‘Graphiconline’ three of the deceased were asleep in their rooms when the buildings collapsed on them, resulting in their instant deaths.

The fourth person is said to have drowned in rushing flood waters at Siniesi in the Builsa North district.

The torrential rains have also displaced about 50 people at Sumbrungu, a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality.

The Upper East Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr Jerry Asamani who made this known on Monday, September 7, 2020, dispelled reports that deaths of the four were due to the Bagre Dam spillage.

He however could not readily provide the names of all affected people.

He further explained that the affected people at Sumbrungu were being supplied with mosquito nets and coils, mattresses, soap, basins and buckets among others to support them.
