Bernardo Silva says Manchester City cannot depend on the performance that gave them a 2-1 scoreline at the Bernabeu in the return leg fixture of the Champions League at the Etihad.

According to the winger, the times have changed and anything is possible between both sides therefore, the Citizens will not be complacent ahead of the game next month.

Real Madrid will travel to England to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the round of 16 tie.

"The truth is that there has been so much time between the two legs that it makes it different and special, but we know that we won 2-1 away from home.

"We need to play with the same attitude and confidence that we played within the first game, but we have to play with the result. We know that we are playing against a massive club, one of the best in the world, but we are going to try and I believe that we also have a strong team that is capable of winning again."

Man City defeated Los Blancos in the month of February before the coronavirus halted all sporting events. The second leg will resume on August 7, which is a five months break.

Madrid did not lose a game since the restart and have won the Laliga trophy, beating Barcelona to the title with 87 against 82 points. Silva believes Manchester City, after losing the league title to Liverpool must be in a better shape if they want to advance into the semi-final stage.

"The truth is that since the restart Real Madrid have won almost all their games and, as a result, are the LaLiga champions.

"This will only spur them on and they will be fully prepared for this game. We have to be in very good shape ourselves and play really well because, if not, we won't go through. We know that we're coming up against a big team and we need to show all our qualities as well in order beat them."
