The Headmaster of Asanteman Senior High School in Kumasi, Mr. Nathaniel Antwi Asamoah has charged the Ghanaian media responsible for the foundation of the fear and panic created out of the coronavirus pandemic.

He revealed that government is doing everything possible to curtail the spread of the virus in the various Senior High Schools as final year students undertake final examinations yet reportages made by broadcasting firms discredit the work of leaders, which paints a picture of threats to parents on the part of their wards.

“The media have created the COVID-19 fear and panic swamping up Ghanaians,” he said.

“We are making sure that final year students adhere to the various protocols outlined by the school. Students who tested positive in various schools across the country contracted the disease from home before reporting.

Four students were reported to be absent but the cause was not made known by the head assuring that the school is yet to discover the reason for their none participation.

He enlightened that the social distancing protocols have been put in place for the safety of students, with the wearing of masks and washing of hands enforced by the school. He dismissed the anxieties of parents and advised the media to be accurate in their reportages to help government fight the coronavirus.

“You (media) are the people who create fear and panic in parents. There is nothing to fear for their wards. No parent must be terrified for the lives of their children in such a situation.

“Measures have been put in place to take care of students who are might feel unwell. There is a school nurse assigned for that and when things are worse, we take them to the hospital for treatment. We are really on course.”
