The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Mary Owusu Anchiaw has assured that classes will resume on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Senior High School assuring that normalcy has been restored following protest by students on Tuesday.

 

 

She made the revelation before the Ghana Education Service (GES) released a statement that interdicted the Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Felicia Asamoah Dankwaa regarding the death of a final year student.

“We had a meeting with the student leaders and somehow we have been able to calm the situation down. And we also had a meeting with the staff and the headmistress and the management, and she is going to talk to the staff.

 

 

“The students have agreed to go to class tomorrow so classes will begin,” she added.

She guaranteed guardians that the Ghana Education Service will do whatever it takes to protect the lives of their wards especially from contracting and infecting each other with the coronavirus. She also addressed that the students' challenges would be attended to in such a time in order for their needs to be heeded.

“Everything is under control. Their wards are in safe hands. Every parent should be assured that their wards are in good hands and we are taking good care of them.

“We used to have suggestion boxes all over the school but they are no longer available so I have instructed that from today the boxes should be put back so that we listen to them (students) and know their concerns,’ she added.

 

 

The Ghana Education Service released a statement signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo which directed the Headmistress of the KNUST SHS to step down from her post as the GES looks into matters, which led to the untimely death of the learner.

 

 

“The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the Head of the KNUST SHS, Felicia Asamoah Dankwaa to step aside for the Regional Director of Education, Ashanti to take over the administration of the school while Management of GES investigates the circumstances leading to the demise of a final year student on Tuesday 7th July 2020,” the statement said.
