Dancehall artiste and “wahala dey” hit maker, Epixode has described the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards’ (VGMA) ban placed on Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy as an opportunity for other artistes.

Speaking to JoyNews at the VGMA 2020 nominees’ announcement party, the musician asserted that the ban on the two music heavy weights is a blessing in disguise.

Epixode noted that, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have won several awards at the VGMA already and won’t be affected by the ban. He added that their absence, however, will break the monopoly temporarily, to give chance to other artistes to win some of the awards.

Epixode has been nominated for the Dancehall/Artiste of the year and Reggae/Dancehall song of the year at the 2020 VGMA slated for 2nd May at the Grande Arena, Accra.

Last Sunday, organisers of the Ghana Music Awards scheme, Charterhouse, released its full nominees’ list for the 21 edition of the VGMA excluding Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

The duo were slapped with an indefinite ban from participating in the VGMA following their brawl at the 20th anniversary of the award show last year, which saw one of them pulling a handgun.

A board member of the VGMA, Nat Brew Amandzeba explained that the action of Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale on the night “brought the name of the event into disrepute”. Hence, their actions merited the given pumishment.
