African rap god, Sarkodie has recounted his first experience with a racist during a family visit to Germany years back.

He recalled that he attempted entering Germany with an Italian visa when the immigration officer accosted him. Even though the officer admitted that using an Italian visa at the German embassy wasn't illegal, the man still proceeded to harass him just because he is black.

According to him, after he and his family had been assured of the legitimacy of their actions by the officer, the man asked how Sarkodie would take care of himself and his family since he is very aware of how poor Africans are.

“There was a situation where I was going to visit my family in Germany and at the immigration, an officer pulled me aside for holding an Italian officer,” he told Vlad TV. “I didn’t know it was a crime because it was a Schengen visa and I could go anywhere in Europe”.

"He pulled me aside and questioned me about why am I using an Italian visa to enter Germany, and I asked if that was wrong. He said ‘no’ but wants to understand why, and I said ‘just because I wanna come to Germany’”.he said.

The man then proceeds to tell him straight to his face that a black African does not deserve the privilege of using an Italian visa in a German embassy because all Africans should be poor.

"And he said straight to my face that ‘I know Africans are poor, so how are you going to take care of yourself while you are here?’”

“And that, I flipped; that one, I can’t take it. That’s stupid. That’s even racist, it’s just you being stupid. I had to put him right. I lost my cool.”

“From that they on, I had to pay attention to some certain things. I didn’t take things serious until that day,” he concluded
