"A disciple is not the one who reads the Bible and prays every day, though a disciple will often have to do that; neither the one who is part of the Bible Study group but the one who holds to the teachings of Christ, and has given up the right to himself and live in such a way and knows that he is not of his own,” Apostle Eric Nyamekye, the Chairman of The Church of Pentecost revealed in his homily defining the disciple's desire as being a perfect delight through prompt obedience to God’s Word and profound submissiveness to His Lordship.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye was speaking during the live broadcast of a Special Evening Service on PENT TV on Sunday, May 24, 2020, as part of his series on "Living A Victorious Christian Life".

He quoted several Scriptures including Ephesians 2:10; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Genesis 12:1-4; 21:9-14; 22:1ff, among others, and said that a victorious Christian is the one who has absolutely given up on his own will and has subjected himself and his will to the sovereignty of God.

He added that "A victorious Christian is so appreciative of the cross such that before Christ there is no argument." He further mentioned that Christians are not the owners of themselves because they have been purchased with a price and as such, they are required to live to please the Master.

Chairman Nyamekye noted that the Word of God and the Holy Spirit in believers enables them to live like new creation disciples.

"For us who have accepted Christ, we know that the death and the resurrection of Christ is the new creation and for that matter we are part of the new creation. This makes us God’s workmanship; we are His very own possession and we belong to Him," the Chairman explained.

Since Christians are God's treasured possession, Apostle Nyamekye remarked that they have been sealed with the Holy Spirit and marked with "Keep Hands Off" caution to the evil one, which makes them untouchable. He, thus, encouraged believers not to live in fear of the devil and his cohorts because God is responsible for the well-being of His own, hence He watches over them.

Gleaning some lessons from the exemplary life of Abraham, the revered theologian charged Christians to positively respond to God's Word and narrated how Abraham promptly obeyed and followed God's instructions and eventually became His friend.

"Just like Abraham, irrespective of how irrational and distressful God's Word may be, as Christians, let us obey without hesitation," he said.

Bringing his exhortation to a close, Apostle Eric Nyamekye called on Christians to strive to live in simple obedience to Christ in their walk with Him by doing whatever He instructs them and living victoriously which will make Him proud of them and label them as His own.
