Residents of Hemang in the Afigya-Kwabre South have petitioned the government to come to their aid concerning the deplorable state of their road.

Drivers from Afrancho to neighboring towns, ply the route to Hemang, Ntiri Buoho, Kodie, Sasa-Buoho and other areas in a devastated mode. It is also a linking road to the Roman Catholic camp, which makes living very challenging for those working nearby the ‘dusty’ road.  When Soiree News visited Hemang, a bridge at the outskirts of the town was shattered making it hard for two cars to bypass. The landscape of the site is a threat to drivers for the reason that the whole structure can collapse at any time.

Reports gathered in the suburb disclosed that almost 40 school children were endangered near the bridge whiles been transported in their school bus. Speaking to the Assemblyman of Hemang, John Atta on the concerns of the road and the steps taken to fulfil, he revealed that various documentations have been made to the District Assembly but there has been no response so far.

“I reported to my superiors concerning the bridge before it finally collapsed. The Assembly came to survey it and promised to start working on it immediately but all was to no avail”

“We almost lost lives of almost 40 students due to the deplorable state of the road but God saved them from the accident. The issue with the bridge has been there for years, all the cars that uses the main road ply swap through this route whenever there is an accident or the Roman Catholics are engaged with their activities” he said.

Hon. John Atta revealed that due to the quarry production surrounding the area, the government should have taken that advantage for the roads to be constructed for the reason that almost all the company trucks ply through the Ntiri-Buoho road.

“The significance of the quarry production is for our roads to be built. Security Services camp and train here but look at the roads. The pipeline to the Barekese Dam is located in this town but here we are suffering from poor road. The Member of Parliament and District Chief Executive have been informed with the assurance that the road has been awarded to a contractor yet we are seeing nothing. We are pleading on them to come to our aid,”

“The youth decided to embark on a demonstration against the government but I intervened and advised them that the protest is not the solution to it. I convince them to also petition the leaders as a sign of respect and address their grievance”.

“The earth shakes whenever there is a blast at the quarry sites yet we get no benefit from them. We can go and petition them to provide chippings and stones for the construction.  That’s the only way we can benefit from them,” he added.

Drivers also directed their petitions through Soiree News and appealed to government to build their road in order to convey passengers safely to their destinations.

“When you are transporting a pregnant woman through this road, she will pre-maturely deliver judging from the pot holes and broken bridge. We are unable to save money for our family because our cars are always sent for maintenance. Nana Addo should come to our aid,” he added.
