Christian Pulisic is part of the inspiration behind the celebrations of Liverpool fans across the world since Thursday night, June 24, 2020.

His first goal in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge brought about many memories with former Dortmund manager, now in charge at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp.

The Chelsea winger raced in a ball around 60 yards out, nipped it past Mendy, and found himself one-on-one with Ederson before going at the bottom-right-corner in the 36-minute.

His performance on the night was a testament to why Chelsea acquired the 21-year old.

The Chelsea winger credited the victory to the former Dortmund manager and commended Liverpool’s performance throughout the season.

“I wasn’t thinking about them too much when I scored but of course they’ve had a great season,’ he said.

‘It’s incredible how they’ve maintained such a high level the whole season, continued to get close results and win tight games. That’s a credit to all their players and their manager – they’ve done an incredible job.’

Pulisic was once a transfer target for the Reds and the American moved to the Bundesliga club when Klopp was still the manager of Borussia Dortmund – in fact, the Liverpool manager gave Pulisic his first professional training with Dortmund's first-team.

“He was there when I first moved to the club,” Pulisic told Goal a year ago in an interview.

“I personally didn’t get to know him too well but I’ve heard stories from some of my team-mates who did and they loved playing for him.

“I was obviously playing with the youth teams at Dortmund, but he was the one who gave me my first professional training session, just to give me a taste of it.”

Pulisic sealed a €64million deal to Chelsea last summer but injuries have unsettled his performance for the London club yet his supervision under Frank Lampard is paying off and the inclusion of Timo Werner next season would bring the best out of the American in their pursuit to challenge for honors.

Chelsea before the intense game were fourth, trailed by Manchester United at fifth. They needed a win to improve their top-four chances and after the 2-1 victory, they have extended the margin by four points with a point separating them and third-placed Leicester City.

‘The most important thing was that we got the three points that we desperately needed today,’ he said.

‘We looked at this game against a big opponent and we wanted to win it. We were at home, obviously in slightly different circumstances, but we’re happy that we came out and got a really good result.’
