Paris St Germain has been crowned as champions of Ligue 1following the French government's ruling to suspend this season's sporting competitions.

The capital city club were top of the table when football came to a halt, boasting a 12-point lead over Marseille even though they had played one game less.

This is PSG's ninth Ligue 1 title, after also winning it in 1985/86, 1993/94, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16, 2017/18 and 2018/19.

That pulls them level with Marseille, while they're still one title behind the Saint-Etienne's French record of 10.

The French champions dedicated the title to the frontline workers for their commitment in the fight against COVID-19.

“We would like to dedicate this 2019-2020 Ligue 1 title to healthcare staff and to all the everyday heroes on the front line whose commitment and self-sacrifice over many weeks have earned our deepest admiration,” Nasser Al-Khelaïfi SAID.
