One of South Africa's leading actress from Mpumalanga, Thandeka Mdeliswa, has passed away according to the Mpumalanga news.

She had been battling for her life after she was shot at Evander, Mpumalanga on September 3 in an increasing occurrence of gender-based violence (GBV). The actress sadly passed away over the weekend in the early hours of Saturday at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

According to the police spokesperson, Brig Leonard Hlathi, she was shot when she intervened in an argument between two men and her brother. When she tried to settle the heated situation one of the two men grabbed the other's firearm and allegedly shot Mdeliswa. The police stated that it has since identified the owner of the gun, but are still in pursuit of the shooter.

“We are currently investigating the incident but have not arrested anyone. Yesterday, we brought the owner of the gun to book and we were advised to get the person who pulled the trigger,” it stated. 

“Her condition was critical but stable. She passed on in the morning of September 6th. The circumstances surrounding her death are still under investigation by SAPS,” Her family confirmed her passing in a statement.

“This is another incident of violence against women (gender-based violence) which our country has to fight against. We believe that justice will be served,”
