The Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on Monday, August 3, 2020, toured the first-ever Creative Arts Senior High School in Ghana.

 

 

The school, located in the Kwadaso Municipality in the Ashanti Region witnessed a sod-cutting ceremony by the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo on Sunday, December 1, 2019, for works to begin, stating that the project is to “reaffirm our commitment to the growth of the creative arts industry by cutting the sod for the construction of the very first Senior High School in Ghana dedicated solely to the industry.”

 

 

The Education Minister after inaugurating the GetFund Mid-Ghana office in Kumasi toured the site with the GetFund administrator, Mr. Richard Ampofo Boadu, the GetFund Board of Trustees chairman, Prof. Dominic Fobi and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi plus a few dignitaries.

 

 

The Zonal Manager of GetFund, Mr. Dafeamekpor Atsu in a press briefing addressed that the school when completed will serve as a platform for High school students to grasp much knowledge about the Creative Arts industry before advancing to the tertiary to settle on the career.

He informed that facilities that will guide students' development will all be provided to make the school serve the purpose at which it was built to preserve and promote Ghana’s arts and culture.

 

 

“People in the Secondary School can be trained in the creative industry in order to veer off either to NAFTI (National Fil and Television Institute) or the GIJ (Ghana Institute of Journalism), but they will have the training from here so this building is in that line as an achievement of the target of President’s policy of the free SHS.

"It is the first of its kind to have creative arts school at the senior high or the secondary level.

 

 

 

“There are auditoriums and other facilities that will help in the training but we are looking at the residences, the classrooms, and accommodation for the key staff and the Rector and his assistance. The contractor has mentioned other facilities so they will also be added up as the need arises.

He asserted that the contractor has given up to September to be able to deliver most of the project that is on-site.

 

 

GetFund has authorized construction between 2017 and the first quarter of 2022 over 900 structures across the length and breadth of the country. These structures are been completed and a lot more are at the final stages of the completion.

The government is also building five science focus schools at Akrobie, Posinte, Weija, Abomosu, and Awaso to champion its intention of improving access to science education at the secondary level.
