Parents Will Not Be Allowed To Visit Students When Schools Reopen

Parents and guardians will be disallowed from visiting their children in educational institutions, when Basic and Senior High schools resume later this month, as directed by President Akufo-Addo.

Schools are also debarred from holding assemblies, or any activity that will require a large number of students converging at the same place.

The move, the Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, is to keep the students from being exposed to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Minister was giving an update about measures taken by the ministry to prevent the spread of the virus among students following the directive by the president to allow educational institutions to open to final year students.

Mr Opoku Prempeh said all schools would be required to ensure social-distancing in the sitting arrangements of the students.

He said all classrooms must reduce their sitting capacities and also provide hygiene facilities, such as the Veronica buckets.

He also urged parents not to send any child to school when "the child is unwell."
