Nana Osei Kwaku III, 'Saamanhene' of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has lauded the efforts of the Kumasi Youth Association (KUYA) for fighting for the interest of Asanteman.

The Representative of the Asantehene was the recipient of KUYA’s petition after the Security Service sanction the ‘Asanteman Kyefa’ demonstration through a court injunction. The protest march according to the organizer of the Association, Tweneboah Kodua was to prompt government on abandoned infrastructures, left for bushes to take over, and others like roads carelessly ditched to upset the lives of people in the society.

“The aim of the demonstration is about the poor roads we have in Kumasi that we believe needs fixing. Hospitals have been abandoned and our Boankra (inland port) which has become more or less like a zoo”

“This is not about putting any pressure on the government. Either the present or the past government started these projects so it’s nothing new.  I do not know why people will read political undertones into this,” Tweneboah Kodua informed.

The group after the suspension of the 'peaceful march' progressed to the Manhyia palace to present their petition to the Ruler of the Land. After several minutes of waiting outside seeking for clearance infront of heavily guarded Manhyia, KUYA was authorized to meet Nana Osei Kwaku III.

Nana after receiving their letter on behalf of the Asantehene commended their efforts and advised them to hold on the protest march until the Asantehene respond to their petition.

“We are in support of your call to better the situation for Asanteman yet we will have to alert the custodian of the land. Please cease the uproar because the Police are with you. This is not a fitting day for the King to meet you that is why he chose us to represent him. Go home in peace. The King will attend to your appeal and respond,” he said.

Nana Osei Kwaku advised leaders of KUYA to enquire on the latest development to be able to know the response of the King and the next line of action.
