Ghanaian gospel artiste, Akesse Brempong has called on Ghanaians to pay more attention to the gospel genre.

"One of the things you can’t deny is that there’s a shift. There’s a shift in the music landscape in Ghana and now gospel music is getting some form of attention,” he enthused.

He confessed the positive shift in times, as he admitted that people are now paying more attention to gospel music due to one or more reasons; with gospel music's connection to the spiritual realm the most obvious.

“It didn’t use to be like that. We didn’t use to pay much attention to gospel music, but now gospel music is getting some form of attention,” he observed.

Brempeng added that the attention being paid now is as a result of the mixing of styles that gospel musicians have been employing, pointing out that he himself blends the traditional and contemporary styles. He told Benjamin Akakpo on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM.

“Even in the gospel music circles, there’s a shift going on. It used to be traditional gospel, now there’s some light shed on contemporary gospel”. He explained.

“And, so, one of the things I believe is that contemporary gospel is that kind of movement that will export the Ghanaian gospel music, so, I believe that some attention needs to be paid to gospel music. Look at the legends of gospel music that we have in the country and juxtapose them to the attention we pay gospel music, I think it’s small. Gospel music needs more attention.” he concluded.
