Nigerians reportedly spent over 6, 976, 882, 087 billion naira to watch films in the cinemas in 2019.

It was learnt that the figures are according to data provided by cinemas and gathered by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).

This disclosure was made by the Executive Director of CEAN, Adedayo Thomas.

"The box office generated almost N7bn in 2019. Between N6.4bn an N6.7bn was generated. But from information at our disposal, money generated from DVD sales may have been higher. This is because less than 20 percent of the population is watching cinema."

This stat provided is not so arguable, considering that there were loads of movies made in 2019, with a great number making it to cinema big screens and some of these actually went on to make huge amounts running into hundreds of millions.

From Merry Men 2, The Bling Lagosian and Living in Bondage, the sequel, these movies left Nigerians going spending a huge chunk of their cash at the cinemas.

Obviously this stat provided by the body responsible for the regulation of movies in the country shows that the sector was going massively.

Note that the figure does not even put into consideration the money made from sales of CD’s and DVD’s, which could greatly increase the total figure of revenue made by the movie industry in the past year.
