NDC embark on Coalition for National Sovereignty 'DEMONSTRATION' despite a COURT ORDER of 'restrain'.

According to reports, a court order was served to the organizers to suspend the demonstration due to security inconsistencies but the restriction was rebuffed for the protest march to progress.

Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have embarked on a demonstration in the capital city of the Ashanti Region, Kumasi today, September 19 2019 to inform government on the recent state of hardship Ghanaians are going through.

The Coalition for National Sovereignty protest march themed; “Yewu demo (We are dying)” was led by the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Boamah Otokunor, former Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Joseph Yamin, Benard Mona, PNC National Chariman, Nana Agyenim Boateng Gyataba, UFP flagbearer and effective leaders together with hundreds of party members clad in party outfits and holding placards with inscriptions; “Why is Kejetia still closed?”, “We are dying”, “Over 120 Minister and Over 1000 president staff, why?” and a lot of questionable tags towards the president.

The march begun at 9 am on Thursday from the Prempeh Assembly Hall, Jubilee Park through Alabar, Kejetia and the streets of Adum.

According to reports, a court order was served to the organizers to suspend the demonstration due to security inconsistencies but the restriction was rebuffed for the protest march to progress. Speaking to the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Boamah Otokunor on why the order was discarded, he revealed that the advice by the security service turned up in the middle of the process therefore there was nothing they could do to quit.

“It was not a writ but an advice by the Security Council in the middle of the demonstration therefore recommendations are there for us to accept or reject. We chose what will profit us and as you all know, the demonstration has started,” he said.

Mr. Boamah denied the Police Service serving them a writ and questioned the timing of carrying out the order. He revealed that Executives of the Party notified the Ashanti Regional Police Commander a month before hence their involvement.

“You can’t serve a writ in the middle of the demonstration. You can’t go to court and write any notice to serve us. We learnt the writ came from the second in Command taking orders from government officials to stop the demonstration in the absence of the Regional Commander who is on leave. Meanwhile the demonstration is contrary to the works of the authorities so how can we wait for the government to tell us how we must exercise our rights. Nothing restricts us politically, socially, morally and lawfully,” he added.

Speaking to the former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Yamin, he also verified that a writ was served to the organizers but spoke against the schedule at which it was addressed. He narrated that the march had started before the order came. He addressed that the court order was served for the interest of peace and sanity, which the NDC preserved throughout their walk.

“There has been peace from the beginning till now; that is the reason why the order was served. You (reporter) are a witness that there has been peace throughout our walk.”

Mr. Yamin further make known that the motive of the protest march was to inform the government of the current hardship Ghanaians are going through and the need for the New Patriotic Party to fulfill his promises made to the people before they were voted to power.

Party faithfuls in the Greater Accra Region led by the former Presdient, Mr. John Dramani Mahama and party executives undertook their version of the demonstration few months ago and according to Mr. Joseph Yamin, it was needful for the people in the Ashanti Region to embark on theirs.

“Everybody is suffering. We are only reminding the government of his promises to ease the living of the people. Kumasi Kejetia is closed, petrol increment has been effected, banks are been shut down, infact people are going through stress so it was necessary for us get on this exercise,” he added.

A section of party members who participated in the protest march voiced out on the sufferings and adversity they are facing as traders and jobless graduates. They called on the government to come to their aid and better their living.
