Mikel Arteta has responded to Mesut Ozil’s dissatisfaction concerning Arsenal’s omission of his name in the 25-man Premier League squad.

The highest wage earner of the Gunners name was earlier absent from the Arsenal’s Europa League squad, an issue he remained silent and respected due to the ‘loyalty and allegiance’ he pledged for the club when he signed in 2018.

The German could not hold his peace anymore after it was confirmed that he was excluded from the Premier League squad, meaning he is not eligible to play for the Gunners in any league game until January.

Having been sidelined for seven months now, Ozil opened that Arteta’s decision was an act of disloyalty yet he has always tried to remain positive from week to week that there’s maybe a chance to get back in the squad soon.

Arteta admitted that he has failed for not getting the best out of the midfielder but the exclusion of his name is something he is not guilty of.

"It was just a football decision and my conscience is very calm because I have been really fair with him.

"My level of communication with him has been high, we know what to expect with each other. "He has had the opportunities like everybody else. I'm sad that I had to leave three players out of this list but I tried to look everybody in the eye and be comfortable with it."

"My job is to get the best out of every player to contribute to the team performance," Arteta added. "At the moment I feel that I have failed because I want the best possible Mesut for the team."

Arsenal will play Rapid Wien in the Europa League on Thursday.
