The Ashanti Regional Police Command provided an update on a crime committed at Onwe, near Ejisu.

Public Affairs Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police, ASP Godwin Ahianyo reported on Thursday, August 27, 2020, that a mobile money merchant was shot dead by armed robbers with an AK-47 assault rifle at 8:30 pm.

According to him, the Kodie Police intercepted a Daewoo Matip taxicab later, discovered AK-47 assault rifle, and other items related to the crime which occurred earlier.

“The Ashanti Regional Police Command yesterday at around 8:30 pm recorded a case of armed robbery where the victim was shot dead,” ASP Godwin Ahianyo told.

“He happened to be a mobile money merchant at Onwe near Ejisu. The armed robbers used an AK-47 assault rifle to perpetrate this unfortunate crime.

“Subsequent to that the Kodie police at about 12:45 am intercepted a Daewoo Matip taxi cab with registration Number AS 880-16 and the search conducted revealed an AK 47 assault rifle and other items. Our analysis so far has some connection with the robbery incident yesterday,” he added.

He assured that “all the evidence we are picking is also going to help us to get the perpetrators of this crime arrested and we also want to use this platform to inform the general public that we are making some arrest in all the crime that has been committed including robberies.

“Some are in custody, at the appropriate time we’ll invite the media to the regional command and give them an account of all the robbery cases that we have recorded and other cases of crime within the region.”
