The UK is bracing for yet more wet weather after a weekend of heavy downpours that has already caused flooding in parts of the country.

This morning the rain will sweep in across Ireland and the South West as Hurricane Lorenzo approaches British waters.

That band of wet weather will continue its charge across southern England and Wales, heading north throughout the day. There are already 85 localised flood warnings in place across the UK with another 203 alerts for possible flooding in England and Wales. Met Office meteorologist Mark Wilson said: ‘There will be another spell of rain across much of the UK on Monday.

There are warnings in force for Wales and western England. ‘In England there are 72 localised flood warnings and 180 flood alerts, and in Wales there are 13 localised flood warnings and 23 flood alerts.’ The worst weather from the backlash of Hurricane Lorenzo is expected to hit the country on Wednesday and Thursday.

‘But so many heroic spectators still came out for what has been an extremely wet but a spectacular finish to a great week with many highlights.’

The Met Office said Northern Ireland and Scotland are due some more sunshine after a fairly bright day on Sunday. Parts of England and Wales could see highs of 19C (66.2F) or 20C (68F) on Monday, a little above average for the time of year, but this would be masked by the wind and rain.
