Lionel Messi has aired how he was terrified when rivals, Real Madrid entered the race to sign Neymar in the latter stage of the transfer window.

Barcelona tried to convince Paris St. Germain on the sales of Neymar after the Brazilian opted for a move away from the Ligue 1. Barcelona could not meet the demand of PSG which led to an abrupt end although the £200 m saga is likely to resume when the transfer window reopens.

Fiorentino Perez attempted to hijack the transaction to employ Neymar at the Bernabeu but Los Blancos later pulled the plug before the Transfer window was shut.

According to Messi, Neymar desperately wanted to leave PSG even if Barcelona refused to acquire him therefore he was anxious that Real Madrid would secure the service of his intimate friend.

"Honestly, I thought that Neymar would go to Madrid if he didn't come here," said Messi in an interview with RAC1, reported by Spanish publication, Marca.

"He really wanted to leave Paris and had said so. And I thought Florentino and Real Madrid were going to do something to take it away."
