Lionel Messi, the Best FIFA Men's Player of the Year

Lionel Messi was the winner of the Best FIFA Men’s Player.

The 32-year old was crowned champion for the sixth time after scoring 51 goals for club.

He beat off Dutchman, Virgil Van Dijk and the unavailable Portugal captain, Ronaldo for the prestigious award.

Messi stripped the honor from Real Madrid star, Luka Modric after a magnificent individual display in the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament with Croatia.

His brilliance also helped the Blaugrana to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals and the Copa Del Rey final while he played his part in Argentina’s third-place finish at the Copa America.

Elsewhere in the Best FIFA Women's Player of the Year Award, Megan Rapinoe, Captain of the United States Women's National Team (USWNT) grabbed the win.
