Turn out in the ongoing Voters’ Exhibition Exercise has been very poor.

The eight days exhibition exercise, purposely intended to allow prospective voters to verify if their details, such as names, sex and age are properly captured during the registration exercise and also make requests for amendments or insertions when necessary has recorded a lower participation at the various centers in the Kwabre East District.

The Electoral officers at the Kenyasi Abirem Roman Catholic Primary today, 14 September were expecting an improved turnout due to working hours distractions since the exercise begun yet involvement of candidate is unchanged. Every now and then, one or two persons would come over to verify their information, which keeps administrators at the center idle, and dull sometimes. Officers have attributed the cause of low participation to members unfamiliarity with the progression of the event and the absence of education on television and social media.

“Attendance has been very low from Tuesday till now. We were expecting a change today but it looks like lots of the people are not aware of what is going on. I believe the publicity and education did not reach them enough. If they knew the significance of this exercise, majority of them would have patronized,” an electoral officer disclosed.

He added that they are expecting a number of more than 1,300 in the Kenyasi Abirem Roman Catholic Primary center however; ten percent of the estimated number has been involved.

“We have more than 1,300 names in the electoral register but so far, only 103 people have been able to validate their names. If there is any way the people can be made aware of the practice, I suggest the electoral commission should employ else, it will affect us during elections. They will come to vote and when their names are not found or not validated, they begin to create chaos”.

The exercise will end on Tuesday, September 17 2019.
