Lionel Messi will stay at Camp Nou irrespective of any interest from teams in Europe.

The Argentine, reported by Mundo Deportivo is close to extending his contract at Barcelona until 2024.

Messi is entering the last stage of his contract, having signed a three-year deal in 2017, which included a stipulation allowing him to leave the club free at the end of the season.

It was speculated that the six-time Ballon d’Or winner would leave the Camp Nou to reignite with his former manager, Pep Guardiola at Manchester City following his feud with Eric Abidal after publicly calling out the sporting director, challenging him to name names and accused him of tarnishing the players' reputation.

“Honestly, I don’t like doing these things but I think that everyone has to be responsible for his acts and take responsibility for their own decisions,” Messi wrote.

“The players [are responsible for] what happens on the pitch, and we have been the first to recognize when we were not good. The people in the sporting directorate should also assume their responsibility and above all take ownership of the decisions they make.

“Finally, I think that when players are talked about, names should be given because, if not, we are all being dirtied and it feeds comments that are made and are not true.”
