$180,000 was for the player’s transfer, $45,000 represented accrued interest and $15,000 for Kotoko’s failure to respect a FIFA decision.

Asante Kotoko has confirmed the payment of debt owed over the illegal transfer of Emmanuel Clottey to Esperance of Tunisia.

The club made the revelation through the Kotoko app after the world governing football body, FIFA was notified by the Tunisian club over the unlawful activity of the Ghanaian player.

Kotoko were given up to May 17 to defray the debt or face stricter sanctions from FIFA.

“Dr Kwame Kyei has paid the amounts due Esperance and FIFA in the Emmanuel Clottey issue,” Spokesperson of the club Kennedy Boakye-Ansah said on Kotoko Express App.

“Thirty thousand ($30,000) US Dollars go to Esperance as an addition to the $150,000 owed Kotoko for the transfer of Kwame Bonsu.

“The Executive Chairman also paid $15, 000 to FIFA. We are grateful to Dr. Kyei and also to Ashford Tetteh Oku of Close Marking Consult for the smooth closure of this case,” he concluded.

The Porcupine Warriors would have been banned if they had defaulted for the second time.
