In the 125th Der Klassiker, Bayern Munich were left celebrating as a sensational Joshua Kimmich strike was enough to beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 and all but wrap up the Bundesliga title.

In the continued absence of fans due to the coronavirus pandemic, Kimmich struck, looping the ball over Roman Burki and into the corner of the net, further silencing an empty Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund were unable to get themselves back into the game, and Bayern now have a seven point lead atop the Bundesliga, with just six matches left to play.

Most of the pre-match talk was of the duel between Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski, but neither found the net and both were subdued for the most part.

Dortmund though, started the better side and at one point in the first half has amassed 70 percent possession.

Haaland did have an effort cleared off the line by Jerome Boateng before the home side had a goal disallowed when Thorgan Hazard strayed offside as an Achraf Hakimi shot was headed in by Raphael Guerreiro.

At the other end, Lukasz Piszczek was on hand to stop a Serge Gnabry strike on the goal line, and Leon Goretzka had a thunderous long-range effort beaten away by Burki.

The stage was then set for Kimmich, who won the ball in midfield then dinked the ball over the Dortmund goalkeeper from the edge of the penalty area. It was the first goal BVB have conceded at home since January 24, 2020

Last season, Kimmich scored just twice, though deliver 19 assists playing at right-back. Now as a midfielder, he has amassed five goals and nine assists in the Bundesliga.

Lucian Favre made changes at half time, bringing on Emre Can and Jadon Sancho, though to no avail, as Dortmund huffed and puffed but never brought the Bayern house down.

Haaland did flash just wide from inside the penalty area, and replays showed his shot struck the elbow of Boateng. However, referee Tobias Stieler nor the VAR saw any infringement.

As the game drew to its conclusion, Bayern shut up shop, limiting Dortmund to a few speculative efforts.
