Miralem Pjanic says seeing Messi in another club’s shirt would have been tough for a new signing like him.

The Bosnian footballer described the prolific Argentine as an ‘alien’ and looked to play beside him, having enjoyed being in the same team with Cristiano Ronaldo during his Juventus spell.

"For me, looking at it from the outside, I couldn't see him anywhere other than here," he stated.

"He is a huge player. There is always disappointment after a loss, but this is his home. It would have been difficult for me to see him in another shirt.

"He is the best player of all time, and it is very important that he is still with us.

"I haven't known him for long. I have played with [Francesco] Totti, Cristiano [Ronaldo]... it is important for me to have these footballers beside me.

"They are very important players and for me, they are an example.

"It will be unique to share a dressing room with an alien. But the whole group is important."

The former Juventus midfielder signed a four-year contract with Juventus before the end of the season in a 65 million euro offer and was unveiled by Barcelona on Tuesday afternoon at the Camp Nou.
