The federal government has released a comprehensive list of international airlines in Nigeria that have been denied approval to resume operation as international flights resume on Saturday.

The names of the airlines were announced by the minister of aviation, Hadi Sirika, on Thursday, September 3, during a Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing in Abuja.

The international airlines denied flying approval, according to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, include Air France, KLM, Etihad, Rwandair, Lufthansa, TAAG Angola Airlines, and others.

Some airlines were however denied approval because international flights were yet to resume in their countries.

They are Cape Verde and South African airlines.

The airlines given license to operate include Middle-East, British Airways, Delta Airlines, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Egyptair, Air Peace, Virgin Atlantic, Asky, Africa World Airways (AWA), Air Cote-d’Ivoire, Kenya Airways, Emirate, and Turkish airlines.

They are expected to operate within COVID-19 protocols.

Explaining the reason for this discrepancy, the minister pointed out that the Nigerian government "used the ‘foreign carrier operator permit’ which is the requirement by our laws, guidelines by COVID-19 PTF and other guidelines including restrictions that came from other countries which will affect our own operations here at home."

Sirika also issued further guidelines for arriving and departing international passengers.

Sirika made it clear that that passengers who fail to present a valid COVID-19 test or refuse to do another test may enter the travel watch list for six months.
