Ciro Immobile is now the leading scorer in Europe's major leagues this season.

The Italian notched his 35th Serie A goal of the campaign in Lazio's 2-0 win over Brescia on Wednesday evening.

That goal makes him the outright leader in the race for the European Golden Boot, ahead of Robert Lewandowski, who scored 34 goals in the Bundesliga this term.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the only other player still in contention for the prize, but he's back on 31 league goals for the season.

On the verge of Serie A history

Immobile is just one goal behind the record haul in one season in Serie A.

That record is held by Gonzalo Higuain, he netted 36 times for Napoli in the 2015/16 campaign.
