ICGC Churches to Remain Closed till July despite Easing of Covid-19 Restrictions

The International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) says its churches in Ghana will remain closed despite green light given by President Akufo-Addo to reopen religious institutions.

A statement issued Tuesday, June 2, and signed by the General Secretary of the church, Rev. Morris Appiah, said the church would use the month of June to evaluate all safety protocols in selected local assemblies in various districts.

“This will enable us to determine the appropriateness and effectiveness of the protocols throughout our churches nation-wide,” the statement said

It, therefore, directed the pastors of the various branches to keep the church building closed until so advised by the Presbytery.

President Akufo-Addo’s on Sunday, May 31, 2020, eased the restrictions on religious institutions after having being closed down for over two months following the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

The president gave the green-light for the reopening of these institutions as he announced the first phase of eased COVID-19 restrictions.

While some churches have welcomed the new directive, others such as the ICGC have directed that their churches remain closed.

ICGC’s decision is based on reports that the COVID-19 virus has spread to districts where some its local assemblies are located.

It, therefore, directed all ICGC local assemblies to continue fellowshipping together on-air and on-line.
