Carlo Ancelotti has praised his Everton side for their composure in the Merseyside derby yesterday.

The Italian has defined the result, fair, and looks forward to such performances to be replicated and improved upon in the Toffees upcoming Premier League games.

Everton and Liverpool played a goalless draw game at Goodison Park on Sunday, June 21, 2020.

The Reds were looking to win the game to slate a premature time to be crowned Champions of England only to face a stiffer Everton defense who gave them a good game to contend in the Derby.

"The performance was good; we did well defensively. We didn't concede opportunities, we were focused. We had a big chance to win but against a strong team, we showed good character and personality. It's what we planned and wanted from the game.

"We didn't concede a lot of space to Van Dijk to play from the back. We were focused on Fabinho and defensively, the back four were really good - strong in the tackle. I'm really pleased.

The Toffees came close to winning the game in the dying minutes of the game when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was denied by a low save from Alisson and Tom Davies struck a post on the follow-up. Later, Calvert-Lewin also headed wide before Richarlison had a further effort blocked.

"It wasn't easy for the strikers but they worked hard, they fought and we had two or three opportunities to score. We were a bit unlucky but it was a good performance and physically, after a long break, it was good. Considering the fact there was no crowd, the intensity was really good in my opinion.

"It wasn't an open game - we didn't want to give them an open game because it's really difficult when you give them space. I think it was a fair result."
