Ghanaian artiste, Kuami Eugene who bagged Artist of the Year award at the 21st edition of the recently concluded Vodafone Ghana Music Awards-VGMA, triumphantly declared that his victory will begin a new era in the music industry.

The Lynx Entertainment signee prevailed over his rivals for the enviable award and has been criticized by his contemporaries as they believe that he does not deserve the award. The likes of GuruNKZ and Kofi Kinaata have all raised their volumes to highlight the injustice that has been meted out to others for losing out to a "young Kuami Eugene" in the prestigious category.

Kofi Kinaata, on the one hand, after suffering defeat, declared himself as the winner of the award:

“I know I’m the Artiste of the Year. It was just on the plaque [for Kuami Eugene] but I knew it’s mine, Kofi Kinaata. Looking at the year under review, it was Kofi Kinaata. I know my songs are the best. Majority of Ghanaians will say is Kofi Kinaata but aside from the judges, anything can happen” he said, subtly pointing to the fact that the award ceremonies must have been rigged.

Guru NKZ on the other hand is of the opinion that the award should have gone to Sarkodie.

Kuami Eugene, who has impressively won Highlife Artiste of the Year Award for 3 consecutive at the VGMA’s, beat Sarkodie, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata and Diana Hamilton to the award in a surprising turn of events.

He took to his Twitter page to send out his appreciation to his fans, well-wisher, and to all Ghanaians for his "undeserved award". He maintained that his win will now open the gates for young artistes who are hardworking enough to win the Artist of the Year awards category in years to come.
