‘I can’t Stop God’s work’ – Priestess involved in Murder of 90-year-old woman says in Court

The ‘Priestess’ said to have masterminded the lynching of 90-year-old Akua Denteh in Kafaba, has told a court that the death of the old woman was an accident.

The priestess, Sherina Mohamed alias Hajia Filipina told the Bole Magistrate court, she was only doing God’s work in exorcising witchcraft from the widow.

Hajia Filipina – the key subject to the criminal investigations - has been charged with murder in connection to the incident.

The remand proceedings of the ‘priestess’ on Wednesday lasted a few minutes, per reports from Citi FM.

According to the station’s account, the judge asked her if she was still interested in carrying on with her work as a traditional priestess.

The priestess responded ‘she can’t stop. It is God’s work’.

The accused person even offered to help the judge get healed if he was to suffer a health misfortune such as blindness.

The statement caused an outburst of laughter in the court room.

The accused person is said to have shown no remorse.

After the brief exchanges, the court remanded the traditional priestess to re-appear August 20.

Hajia Filipina was on August 4, arrested at her hideout at Yeji in the Bono East region by police in Salaga.

The ‘priestess’ is reportedly believed to have pronounced the 90-year-old Madam Akua Denteh as a witch and consequently ordered her lynching.

The 90-year-old Madam Akua Denteh was lynched on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality

She was accused by Hajia Filipina, of using her witchcraft to work against allowing rain to fall in the area.

The traditional priestess is the seventh person arrested with the exception of the Kafaba chief, Zackaria Yahaya who is currently on bail.
