The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has commended President of Ghana Akufo-Addo’s decision to extend the ban on public gatherings to the end of May.

Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as “General Mosquito” said, the decision by Akufo-Addo to extend the ban is laudable considering that the country’s covid-19 cases continues to rise.

President Nana Akufo-Addo extended the ban on social gatherings to the end of May 2020 during his Sunday’s address to the nation on the coronavirus situation.

“Tonight, I have come into your homes to announce that the ban on public gatherings, as set out in Executive Instrument 34, has been extended, also to the end of the month i.e 31st May”

This decision by the president to ensure continued enforcement of the ban on public gatherings, is aimed at slowing down the community spread of the virulent disease.

They expressed their preparedness to resume church activities, as they put together a proposal for the government, to spell out how their programmes can be conducted safely to avoid risk of congregants contracting the disease.

However, Johnson Asiedu Nketia maintained in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’ that, "it is a good decision” and “I agree with the President for not lifting the ban on public gatherings.”
