The Municipal Chief Executive of Kwabre East, Hon. Osei Asibey Bonsu has explained that the successful organization of the District Assembly and Unit Committee elections is another milestone towards the deepening of democracy and decentralization policy introduced to Ghana’s governance structure since 1988.

He revealed that the District Level elections has allowed the local people to take part in the decision making process from Unit Committee, through the Zonal Councils to the District Assemblies, assuring that the Assembly would work hard to ensure that substructures are adequately capacitated, strengthened and motivated to work.

 

 

The Honorable member delivered his address at the Inauguration of the 8th Kwabre East Municipal Assembly held on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at the forecourt of the District Assembly administration Block at Mamponteng.

The District Assembly Elections is held every four years in line with article 246(1) of the constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

Hon. Osei Asibey Bonsu defined the Assembly Members as the main group of people who have made the implementation of the decentralization of the programme successful by working tirelessly over the years to take decisions that have led to the enormous number of successful developmental projects in the Municipality.

 

 

“They have served as the channel for linking the communities and the Municipal Assemblies through the Zonal Councils and vice versa. They conveyed issues from the communities to the Assembly and also used the information channel within their electoral areas to communicate issues and policies from the Assembly to the communities,” he revealed.

He assured the elected members of his full support to aid them take decisions that will accelerate growth in the Kwabre East.

Furthermore, he made a call to the Traditional Leaders and other key holders in the community to give the necessary support and co-operation required to enable the Assembly Members perform their duties effectively and to serve their communities very well.

 

 

The Mampontenhene, Nana Saasi Ayeboafo II, the chairman of the program spoke that decentralization is a key in governance as far as Ghana’s democratic rule is concerned therefore elected Assembly members must focus on why they were chosen and effect positively through their works in the Kwabre East District.

He urged the elected members to bring out good policies to help in the development of the Municipality.

“Don’t forget to work hand in hand with Nananom because governance came to meet the traditions and culture and that will help you to be able to achieve what you intend to do,” he said.
