Former City defender Danny Mills has advised Jack Grealish to focus on his spell at Aston Villa regardless of Pep Guardiola calling for his service at the Etihad.

The Englishman has attracted interest from Manchester City amidst his recent form in the Premier League and on international duty with the Three Lions and talkSPORTS reports that Pep Guardiola is convinced the 25-year old could help his side recover from their struggles in the Premier League.

Danny Mills believes City have got many options in attack and on the wings so as in the midfield and therefore it would be a mistake for Grealish to quit Villa for the Citizens since he could sit on the bench and lose confidence in playing.

“My concern for Jack going to Manchester City is where does he fit into that system, and where does he play?

“Sergio Aguero’s going to be the No.9, if not it’s going to be Gabriel Jesus, they’ve just brought in Ferran Torres and he’s doing OK, they’ve got Raheem Sterling on the other side.

“You’d probably expect Grealish to play in the midfield area, but they’ve got Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and of course Kevin De Bruyne, who is arguably the best midfielder in the world.

“Would it be a straight swap and a kick in the teeth for Foden if the transfer happens? For all we’ve heard about how great Foden is, and Guardiola goes on about him being one of the best young players he’s ever seen and coached, he still doesn’t play him that much!

“That’s the only position I see Jack taking, if he moves there.

“If Grealish goes to City, does he start week in, week out?

“As a player in such great form that he is at the moment, do you leave your boyhood club for what is at the moment only an outside chance of winning the Premier League title?

“It certainly doesn’t look like they will win it this season, in the sort of form they’re in.

“It would be an opportunity he’d certainly have to look at, but he might only play 20 or 25 games a season there, and he may start thinking, ‘is that the right move for me?’

“Only Jack would know that, and would know his ambitions.

“But he’d just be adding to City’s squad and the talent they have in that area.”

Manchester City are currently struggling in the Premier League and Guardiola still sees the need to strengthen his team in January following the arrival of Torres and Nathan Ake last October.

De Bruyne is reported by the independent to have been an admirer of Grealish after his stellar performance against Belgium in the Nations League return leg last week.
