The Ghana National Petroleum Cooperation (GNPC) Foundation has funded for the construction of a six-classroom block and a borehole for the Onoo-Ahodwo Community in the Kwabre East Municipal.

A sod cutting ceremony took place on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Onoo for works to begin.

The initiative according to the Kwabre East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu will help to endow knowledge in the youth to make them benefactors of the free education policy enjoyed by Ghanaians under the Nana Akufo-Addo’s government.

 

 

“We petitioned the GNPC Foundation to aid us in endorsing education by building this community a six classroom block and furniture. They have finally responded to our plea hence the sod-cutting event today to begin construction.

Hon. Osei Assibey Bonsu spoke that works on the building will take six months to complete unless challenging situations arise. He revealed that there are other proposals submitted by the Municipal to the GNPC waiting for support yet until then, supervision on the agreed will be tensed to avoid further holdups.

 

 

“The building will serve as the Junior High School block for Onoo and Ahodwo. Works on the building will take six months to complete if only things goes as expected but apart from that, we will administer the daily progress to speed up work.

"This is not the only proposal that has been approved. We have other developments at Kenyasi, Nwamase and a few other places that needs support from the GNPC," he added.

According to Mr. Yaw Acheampong of the GNPC Foundation, it is the cooperate responsibility of the petroleum cooperation to assist deprived communities by providing them infrastructures when their proposals are submitted and checked.

 

 

He spoke that the company has allocated budget every year for public services with the objective of making lives better for people in destitute areas.

“When they brought their proposal, we realised they need a classroom block extension so after a few measures, we consented to their plea. The community also needed a borehole and that also has been granted for construction.

“GNPC has constructed 105 boreholes across the country last year since our existence. This year we are doing 235 with some ongoing. One for this community is an evident of our charges”, he said.

 

 

The ceremony was graced by the chief, traditional leaders, teachers and students of the Onoo and Ahodwo community.
