Ghana Fashion Set for Big Boost as "Wear Ghana Festival" Starts Third Edition.

The Festival officially commenced on Wednesday; March 4, 2020, with a float on the principal streets of Accra with a Fashion Night to be staged at the National Theatre on March 5,2020. 

This is the third edition that has been launched so far by The National Commission on Culture (NCC) as it seeks to promote local texture as well as to create employment for the youth who are into fashion. 

This Festival is themed “Hy3 Wode3” which translates into “Wear Your Own”, as the NCC seeks to improve interests in local Ghana wears. The festival was done in collaboration the local Ghana Textile Producers, Ghana Tourism Authority and Street Fashion Train. 

Madam Janet Edna Nyame, Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture, in her keynote address at the launch of this year’s festival stated;

 

The greatest attraction of a group of people is what they wear, which means we can show ourselves to the world, by what we wear and our infectious Akwaaba smile...Wear Ghana festival has come to stay and our intention to replicate it in all sixteen Regional Centres for National Culture in Ghana and with proper packaging we would be able to attract tourists and corporate entities to buy into it.

 

She said this with the intention of stressing on the importance of promoting the national identity, and she encouraged various institutions to adopt local fabric designs and patterns in their uniforms. 

Madam Janet also commended the President of Ghana for always appearing in his stylish local fabrics shirts, highlighting the importance of leading by example. 

His Excellency, Nana Afo Dankwa Akufo-Adio has always been known and admired for his impeccable choice of attires.

Madam Roberta Dawson Amoah, Marketing Manager of the GTA delivering her speech on behalf of Mr. Akwesi Agyemang, Chief Executive Officer of GTA stressed the need to put Ghana on the world map through fashion as part of the “Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, See Ghana and Feel Ghana" campaign initiated back in 2017. 

She asked fashion stakeholders to take advantage of the opportunities the festival presents to showcase Ghana’s beautiful fabric to the world. 

The NCC also plans to  organise an outreach program to some selected  institution from the 9th of March to the 20th, 2020, and a Ghana fashion and beauty day program on 13th of March to the 14the, 2020.
