A Mid-Ghana Office of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GetFund) has been inaugurated in the capital of the Ashanti Region on Monday, August 3, 2020, at Asokwa.

He updated that the office will have an oversize jurisdiction in the Ashanti, Bono East, Ahafo, and Western North Regions.

“This office is the first of three of its kind and is one of two currently in the country. It is intended that the last will be established in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital,” he said.

“It will also have addition oversize jurisdiction over the Northern, North-east, Upper East and Upper West Regions in the interim.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh spoke that the office is the first of its kind in the region and will be considered the principal instrument for the acquisition of knowledge skills, value, attitude, and for improving the overall efficiency and productivity of the labor force.

He addressed that the president is of the unshakable view that for the country to place itself on the path of prosperity, it must necessarily lift the financial barriers that impede access to senior high education as the minimum.

He commended the administrators of GetFund for carrying out project monitoring and evaluation on the permanent basis through the acquisition of zonal offices.

“In the past GetFund relied solely on supervising project consultants in terms of monitoring and evaluation function with regards to those sponsored projects. This approach has found many shortfalls that do not ensure enhanced project delivery.

“In fact for good project management, monitoring and evaluation start before the project commences and so when GetFund decided that it is going to carry out project monitoring and evaluation on the permanent basis, thus the building of the zonal offices, we can only say well done GetFund that should be part and parcel of your job. It is never too late.

Board of Trustees, Prof. Dominic Fobi challenged that the inauguration of the workplace would enable the board of trustees to be resolute in their drive to determine that GetFund is well-positioned and benefit from strategic and innovative leadership in the Education Ministry.

He assured that GetFund would continue to revive and make available funding to supplement government's effort for the provision of educational infrastructure and facilities within the public sector.

“The establishment for this office born out of a determination to ensure that our monitoring and evaluation process is robust and fit for purpose is a reflection of this determination.

“The road to this day has had its challenges but what is important is that it is here with us. I'm confident that this is the start of the GetFund exciting journey and we look forward to the opportunities that this has brought.”
