GES orders Headmistress of KNUST SHS to resign

Per a statement released by the Ghana Education Service signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the GES is looking into matters, which led to the untimely death of the learner.

The Headmistress of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Senior High School, Mrs. Felicia Asamoah Dankwaa has been ordered by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to resign from her post as investigations of the cause of the death of a final year student continues.

The statement added that the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Mary Owusu Anchiaw will take over from the former and manage the day to day administration of the school.

The news is in relation to a tragic event, which occurred in the school last Monday after protests were sparked on Tuesday following the death of a final year student.

 The deceased according to reports suffered stomach complications and was unguarded by teachers which later resulted in his death.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command were called to maintain peace and order as some students involved in the demonstration have been arrested.

“The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the Head of the KNUST SHS, Felicia Asamoah Dankwaa to step aside for the Regional Director of Education, Ashanti to take over the administration of the school while Management of GES investigates the circumstances leading to the demise of a final year student on Tuesday 7th July 2020,” the statement said.
