Ghanaian artiste, Fameye has explained that he stopped going to church because of the nasty glances people would throw his way just because of his hairstyle.

The artiste claimed that people in the churches he has attended didn't feel comfortable worshiping in the same arena as someone like him whose hair makes him look like the "advocate of the devil".

Fameye, who bagged the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards “Best New Artiste of the Year”, stated this during an interview on Abeiku Santana’s “Atuu” show. He said that he used to attend church services frequently until he decided to make his hair in dread style.

The fast-rising artist admitted that his ear piercings have gotten him criticized by the members of his former church.

Although Fameye claimed that he is open to criticism, he said he didn't just like the judgemental tone in which the members of his church addressed him. This, he said, was the major reason he stopped attending church services altogether.

“I’ve stopped going to church, I used to be a committed churchgoer but after changing my hairstyle to locks and pierced my ears, I got criticized by some old women in my church.” He narrated.

The highlife artiste made known that he still attends church once in a while but he ultimately believes that Christianity lies in the heart.

“So, I thought that Christianity is in the heart. So, I stopped attending church. Once in a while, I attend prayer sessions, but I don’t commit myself to regular services anymore,” he concluded.
