Liverpool settled for a point at the Amex after a controversial injury-time penalty awarded to Brighton to cancel Diogo Jota’s opener in the second half.

It is the fourth time the Reds have dropped points in the Premier League although they climb to top of the table leading Spurs by a point.

Brighton were earlier awarded a penalty in the 19-minute after Neco Williams got caught out as he went for a ball with Connolly on the left of the box, and the Irishman's legs got tangled with Williams to fall in the box. Neal Maupay stepped up, sent Alisson the wrong way, but then sent the ball wide of the right-hand post.

The Seagulls refused to sit back, and possession was beginning to level out but they were sloppy with their finishing.

Salah scored a goal after receiving a long ball from Firmino on the right and flipped a beauty over the top for Salah to run onto. The Egyptian took a touch and pushed it past the onrushing Ryan as he comes out. VAR denies the lead after a review finds Salah offside.

Henderson was introduced in the second half for Neco Williams as Milner moved from his midfield position to the right position.

The Reds began playing higher up the pitch and dominated the initial stages of the second half. Brighton located space whiles the Reds attack and Welbeck‘s run twice to expose the defence of Liverpool was gently defended by Fabinho before Alisson could intervene.

They kept building patiently until Diogo Jota found the back of the net in the 60-minute.

Bissouma slipped on the left as Robertson found space to fizz a ball into Salah. His touch located Jota, who danced past two challenges and looked for the bottom left corner from 15 yards. There was a desperate attempt from White to block it, but it trickled into the far corner.

Mane in the 83-minute headed in from Robertson's resulting free-kick but once again, VAR ruled the goal out as replays suggested that Mane was offside.

The host gave the Reds defence a real test in the final minutes of the game with March feeding Trossard down the left but as he attempted crossing, the ball hit a and he completely missed the ball, falling over and seeing the ball go out for a Liverpool goal-kick.

As the pressure kept intensifying for the Reds in their half, VAR awarded the Seagulls a dramatic penalty after Robertson clearance kicked Welbeck's boot in the process. Gross blasted it right down the middle to level the scores for the hosts.

Liverpool go top on 21 points but are winless from their past four away matches.
