Two-minutes separated the goals scored by Gabriel Jesus and David Silva on Saturday evening against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Gabriel Jesus bulled home the first before an intelligent through ball gave Silva the space to convert City’s second. Manchester City have closed the gap to five with a game in hand for Liverpool who face Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.

Pep Guardiola made four changes from the side that lost 2-0 to Wolves before the international break.

Kyle Walker, Nicolas Otamendi, Riyad Mahrez and Sergio Aguero were all drop out with Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva, Kevin de Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus coming in.

Roy Hodgeson made three changes from their 2-1 win against West Ham last time out, with Wayne Hennessey coming in between the sticks for Vicente Guaita. Luka Milivojevic after suspension replaced James McCarthy, while James Tomkins swapped Martin Kelly in defence.

City responded with an early pressure on the home team as Kevin De Bruyne run through spaces to distribute balls upfront. The first yellow card was shown in the 13-minute to Milivojevic for chopping down Gabriel Jesus.

Man City kept probing around the Palace box to create an opening. Bernardo Silva slipped a ball in behind for De Bruyne. He flashed the ball across the face of goal, aiming for Jesus, but the striker just did not get there in time before Ward cleared behind ahead of a waiting Sterling.

Hennessey fingertip saved another City threat to keep City at following a clearance earlier. Bernardo got in another cross before the keeper pushed it away.

City kept moving the ball around really nicely, helped by the two central midfielders building the play from the back. Fernandinho, in particular played some delightful passes as Palace kept chasing shadows.

Gabriel Jesus opened the scores in the 39-minute to register his 50th goal in all competitions for Manchester City since joining the club

It was another wonderful pass from Bernardo Silva on the right. Jesus moved away from his marker to the acres of space inside the area. Ward tried to get there but it was well behind Jesus as he headed it home past a rooted Hennessey.

Two minutes later, Man City doubled their lead through Gabriel Jesus.

It was lovely, quick attack from the visitors as Mendy tapped the ball to Sterling on the right of the area. He got himself an inch of space before chipping the ball over the top for David Silva, who whacked the ball into the far corner through the legs of Hennessey.

Schlupp paved way for Townsend in the 55-minute for inspiration yet hungry City kept threatening Palace for the killer. Hennessey was on top again to stop the third from going in. Jesus played a lovely give-and-go with Cancelo before taking on the shot, again with plenty of space to set himself up, but a diving stop from the goalkeeper kept him from his second of the evening.

Cristian Benteke’sfirst contribution was Palace's best chance of the game.

It came from a corner and Benteke hammered a header goalwards, but Ederson pushed onto the crossbar.

City pushed for a third but two was enough to close the gap to five before Liverpool honor their fixture tomorrow at the Old Trafford with Manchester United
