Election 2020: Police bans motorbikes at voting centres

The Ghana Police Service has banned the use of motorbikes at polling centres during the December 7, Presidential and Parliamentary general elections.

The Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh, warned that persons with motorbikes – whether registered or not - must stay at least 100 meters away from the centers.

“I don’t want to say that that day, nobody should use motorbikes at all. But at least, about 100 meters from the polling station. You cannot bring a motorbike 100 meters close to the polling station.

“If you try to bring it there, we will prevent you from doing so,” he said while addressing the media on the preparedness of the National Election Security Taskforce ahead December polls.

Mr. Oppong Boanuh explained that the decision was to prevent instances where motor riders snatch ballot boxes at polling centers.
