Election 2020: Mahama to visit family of murdered Mfantseman MP

The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, will from today, begin a five-day campaign tour of the Central Region.

Mr Mahama as part of his tour will visit the family of the slain Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Mr Ekow Kwansah Hayford, in Mankesim.

The former president is also expected to address chiefs and people in many constituencies across the region as well as meet with religious leaders, canoe owners, fishermen and fishmongers.

He will focus on job creation, his plan to roll out Free Primary Healthcare up to the level of district hospitals as well as plans to provide opportunities and employable skills for the youth.

Mr Mahama is expected to end his tour of the region on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the wife of the slain Mfantseman MP, Ophelia Hayford has resigned as an officer of the Ghana Police Service, to contest for the parliamentary seat in Mfantseman, on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)


According to the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, Madam Ophelia, who holds the rank of an Assistant Superintendent of the Ghana Police Service, has resigned in order to replace her husband in the role, after a unanimous endorsement from party members and Mfantseman constituents.

The NPP General Secretary indicated that the party will formally announce a decision on her nomination later.
