The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi addressed that the elected chairpersons for the Sub-Metro District and Town Councils respectively will help perfect the Local Government Structure if their mandates are successfully executed.

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) inaugurated four (4) out of its five (5) Sub-Metropolitan District Councils in separate events on Monday, September 14th, 2020.

The four (4) Sub-Metro District and Town Councils include Subin, Nhyiaeso, Bantama, and Manhyia South. The event was also used to elect chairpersons for the Sub-Metro District and Town Councils respectively.

 

 

“The inauguration is empowerment for them to go and function. The Assembly especially at this time of COVID-19 have to work with alacrity and make sure that the required COVID protocols are put in place, making sure that the wearing of masks is enforced.

The Sub-Metro District Councils and Town Councils and their respective chairpersons after the election were subsequently sworn in by a High Court or Magistrate Court Judge at all the events. the Mayor entreated the members to desist from sabotaging the work of the Assembly members and rather cultivate the habit of volunteerism, discipline, involvement in communal labor, revenue mobilization, among others.

He said the Town Councils were the link to the grass-root hence their obligation to interact with them and report to the Assembly members.

Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi advised them to serve as the eye of the Assembly and also volunteer information to the security agencies to make their work easier for them.

“They need to makes sure that Kumasi goes back to its glory days as the Garden City of Ghana. The mandate is to ensure that the environment is totally clean and must also put an end to afforestation.

“They should also assist the police with information with regard to security. The assembly also needs to help the administrator obtain monies for the progress of the assembly. This is empowering and energizing the hand of the assembly to function effectively.”
