EC Conducts Pilot Voters' Registration Exercise Across the Country

Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced a pilot voters’ registration exercise in selected locations across the country,

The pilot exercise is to properly assess problems with the arrangements and proffer solutions, as the commission prepares for the main nationwide exercise later in June.

 

A mix of residents, EC officers and political party officials took part in the exercise.

However, reports from citinewsroom have it that, EC officers have said only stakeholders including returning officers and some party representatives have so far turned up for the exercise though it is opened to the public.

In the Ashanti Region for instance, the region’s Secretary for the National Democratic Congress, Kwame Zu raised concern with the fact most of the persons taking part in the pilot exercise in his area were EC officers.

During the exercise, safety protocols put in place for the novel coronavirus were largely seen to be observed.

Persons who trooped into the registration grounds wear mandated to wear facemasks and also adhere to social distancing protocols. Temperatures of participants were checked before entry was allowed.

The EC had earlier noted that the requisite materials for the registration exercise remain a passport and a Ghana Card.

They added that an individual without the Ghanaian passport or Ghana Card, will have to be guaranteed by “two guarantors who are registered, voters”
