The Destruction of Nigerian High Commissioner's Residence can cause unnecessary Tensions– Ablakwa

The Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has condemned the demolition of a building belonging to the Nigerian High Commission in Ghana.

Mr. Ablakwa in a post via twitter said the situation if not managed properly by the authorities might have undesired consequence on relationship between Ghana and Nigeria.

“Very disturbing developments with possible devastating consequences for Ghana-Nigeria relations if not well managed with all the urgency required.” he noted.

The Nigerian High Commissioner’ residence in Accra, was reportedly stormed by armed men with bulldozers, who demolished a block of uncompleted apartments on the property on Friday night.

The building was being constructed to house staff and visiting diplomats to the High Commission.

Reacting to this, Mr Ablakwa called on government to with urgency put in place measures to resolve the matter amicably.

Mr. Ablakwa also pointed out that Parliament will in the coming days “play its role in contributing to an amicable resolution.”

He however in the mean time, urged both sides (Nigeria and Ghana) to “remain calm and do everything to prevent the escalation in the spirit of our enviable ancestral ties”
